Lemon Avenue Garden Project Mission Statement

**To connect students, through hands-on lessons, to the food they eat--so that they learn the importance of good nutrition, that they understand the basics of growing and harvesting food, and that they learn basic cooking skills to create simple, flavorful meals from fresh ingredients.

Our Story-

Lemon Avenue has a long history of providing an enriching gardening experience to its students through our PTA-sponsored garden. In 2015, we received a generous award from the Sage Garden Project, which has allowed us to provide all our students with an ongoing edible education. Every class TK-6 receives lessons in our garden, which consists of gardening, cooking in our outdoor kitchen/lab, composting, and exploration. Our curriculum is delivered by a part time garden instructor with the critical help of volunteer docents and all garden lessons help teachers meet required science standards. With our funding opportunity coming to a close with Sage Garden, we are finding ways to sustain this amazing program for all future leopards.

We consider our garden a laboratory for students to discover, observe, and experience first hand the science of nature.

The Lemon Avenue Garden Project's goals are to better connect children with the food they eat, with emphasis on activities that teach students about good nutrition, cooking basics, growing your own food and eating delicious, real food. Our lessons are designed to educate kids about where food comes from, and how nature plays a role in our lives and how we can keep it all in balance.
